Driver Downloads

COMCTL32.DLL library update (50comupd.exe, 498 kB)
Released by: Microsoft Version: 5.80.2614.3600
WhereIsIt? needs to have COMCTL32.DLL updated to version 5.00.2614.3600 or newer in order to run properly. As updating this system library is rarely needed nowdays, WhereIsIt 3.50 and newer no longer ship with this update included in the download package, but it can be downloaded separately if required. WhereIsIt's setup program will check if COMCTL32.DLL needs to be updated; if so, it will not allow installation to proceed until update is successfully in place.

Adaptec ASPI Drivers (ASPI.zip, 487 kB)
Released by: Adaptec Version: 4.71.2
It is highly recommended that you have valid ASPI drivers installed on your Windows 95/98/ME system while using WhereIsIt. While ASPI layer is not mandatory for WhereIsIt to run, it is used when found, as it handles CD-ROM drive access and helps with calculating peroperly CDDB query details. Note that certain third-party ASPI drivers, commonly shipping with CDR software are not standard and can cause problems in WhereIsIt and other applications using ASPI layer. If you are experiencing problems accessing CD-ROM or removable drives in WhereIsIt, re-installing the original Adaptec ASPI drivers may often help to resolve the issue. This download should not be required for Windows NT4/2000/XP users, as newer SPTI is used on those system instead of ASPI, although ASPI drivers still work and are commonly used there as well.

Plugins for WhereIsIt version 3

Starting with version 2.00, the program implements the Description API, a special programming interface that allows developing plugins separately from the rest of the program. Plugins handle advanced tasks in the process of scanning a media, such as extracting and providing the program with descriptions or thumbnails that will be stored in a catalog. Anybody with sufficient programming skills to develop a regular DLL library, in any programming language, can extend WhereIsIt's description and thumbnails importing capabilities by providing the program with a new plugin. If you have a description or thumbnail source that WhereIsIt can not use at this time, for example, a text file in a non-supported format, you can write your own plugin that will process such files and allow WhereIsIt to automatically import descriptions from that source.

Main Description Plugins (DescPlugin.zip, 232 kB)
Author: Robert Galle Version: 4.03 Release date: January 21st 2009

Graphics Plugins (DescGraphics.zip, 719 kB)
Author: Robert Galle Version: 5.22 Release date: June 29th 2009
"Graphics Plugins" is a supplemental plugins module for importing details about most often used graphic file formats in use today. All description plugins provide details such as width, height, and color depth of the picture, and most of them (GIF, JPG, TIFF, PSD, and PNG) can extract more detailed information, if available, as well - for example, digital camera information (EXIF), or IPTC-NAA description fields, embedded in the image file.
Thumbnails plugins are in charge of importing actual images from graphic files and allow WhereIsIt to store their thumbnail versions in catalog. Their secondary task is also to provide support for the internal file viewer, for viewing images in their full size from the media.

Plugin history:

Version 4.97 Added "XML Paper Specification Thumbnails" (*.XPS) thumbnail plugin, added new "Gadgets and Widgets Thumbnails" plugin, extracting available icons and thumbnails from several different gadgets and widget files, including Vista Sidebar gadgets, Yahoo widgets, Adobe AIR widgets,... Full Delphi source code is included.
Thumbnail plugins:
CorelDRAW Graphics Thumbnails (*.CDR)

AutoCAD Plugin (AcadPlugin.zip, 20 kB)
Author: Robert Galle Version: 1.00 Release date: January 29th 2009
The AutoCAD plugin can extract and import embedded thumbnails in AutoCAD's .DWG files, where available. Please note that not all DWG files include thumbnails, and only DWG files created with AutoCAD R13 and newer support thumbnails in the first place. Older DWG files will not cause problems, however they are of no use to this plugin.
Full Delphi source code is included.
Thumbnail plugins:
AutoCAD Graphics Thumbnails (*.DWG)

Video Files Thumbnails Plugin (VideoThumbPlugin.zip, 59 kB, unsupported)
Author: Robert Galle Version: 0.25 Release date: January 5th 2008
This module contains a simple plugin capable of automatically importing user-defined frames from video files as thumbnails. Plugin uses DirectX functionality to get basically all of the job done, pretty much the same way as Windows Explorer does when generating thumbnails. Stability and functionality of the plugin depends heavily on installed system components, especially available video codecs and DirectX drivers.
Note that video files are likely to be encountered that will be causing problems, and may consequently cause scanning to fail or take a long time. Because of such issues, this plugin is not officially a part of WhereIsIt and is not supported in any way. Use on your own responsibility!
Delphi source code is included.
Thumbnail plugins:
Video File Thumbnails

Adobe Acrobat PDF Thumbnails Plugin (PDFThumbnailPlugin.zip, 32 kB, unsupported)
Author: Robert Galle Version: 0.10 Release date: December 22nd 2004
The Adobe Acrobat PDF Thumbnails plugin creates and extracts a thumbnail of the first available page in a given PDF document. The plugin simply calls out Adobe Acrobat through its COM interface for the task. As plugin heavily relies on installed third-party software, it is not officially a part of WhereIsIt and is not supported in any way. Use on your own responsibility!
Full Delphi source code is included.
NOTE !
This plugin requires that full version of Adobe Acrobat is installed on the system. Adobe Reader is NOT sufficient as it doesn't expose COM interface.
Thumbnail plugins:
Adobe Acrobat PDF Thumbnails (*.PDF)

Generic Text File Plugin (GenTextPlugin.zip, 75 kB, unsupported)
Author: Robert Galle Version: 2.02 Release date: June 13th 2008
This module includes two plugins, capable of automatically importing user- defined text files as descriptions for either parent items (folders), or files themselves. This feature was in high demand among WhereIsIt users, however it is likely to produce much larger catalog files with importing more or less irrelevant text. Because of that, this plugin is not officially a part of WhereIsIt and is not supported in any way. Use on your own responsibility!
Description plugins:
Generic Text File Descriptions
Text File Importer
These plugins were developed using the new Description API 2.0, introduced in WhereIsIt 3.0. They can't be used with older versions of WhereIsIt.

Also available are plugins written for version 2, which also work in WhereIsIt 3.

Third-Party Plugins

Plugins below are third-party plugins, developed by other authors. While no known problems exist, these plugins are not supported nor tested, use on your own risk. Note that a bad plugin can cause problems during scanning, and can cause scanning to fail. For any questions or comments about there plugins, please contact their authors directly.

WhereIsIt 3 Language Files

WhereIsIt? has full multi-language support, meaning you can choose one of prepared languages to be used in program's user interface. You can easily switch languages while program is running, and even make your own translations or changes to language files.
Each language file is packed as a self-extract compressed file. To install a language file, just run the downloaded package and select to extract it to the WhereIsIt's folder. The next time WhereIsIt is run, installed language will appear on list of available languages to choose from.

Disclaimer
Most of the language files listed here were prepared by volunteers, not by professionals. Each translation's author takes full credits as well as full responsibilities for the quality and usability of his/hers language file. Consider these language files as third-party add-ons, while the only officially supported language in the program remains to be English.

Language files listed in red are suitable to be used with the latest version of WhereIsIt. Other translations were prepared for older 3.0x versions and need to be updated - if used with version 3.10 or newer, some user interface elements may not be translated and will appear in English. Please refer to the WhereIsIt's help file on how can you update existing language files yourself.

These language files are only to be used with WhereIsIt version 3. Language files for older WhereIsIt 1.xx and WhereIsIt 2.xx are also available.
